Mexico City — 4 nights
Aztec ruins at Templo Mayor, panoramic views from Torre Latinoamericana, Frida Kahlo's Blue House in Coyoacan. Street tacos al pastor for dinner. The kids won't want to leave Chapultepec Park.
Oaxaca — 5 nights
Monte Alban's Zapotec hilltop ruins, hands-on cooking classes with mole and tamales, a street art bike tour through 3 neighborhoods. The whole family paints alebrijes at a local workshop.
Merida — 3 nights
Colonial mansions on Paseo de Montejo, the interactive Mundo Maya museum, and a day trip to Uxmal and the Loltun caves. Kids love underground exploration.
Valladolid — 2 nights
Chichen Itza at opening time (before the crowds), swimming in Cenote Suytun's underground cathedral, and a visit to the Xkopek bee park. A quiet colonial town with everything at walking distance.
Tulum & Riviera Maya — 7 nights
Clifftop Mayan ruins above turquoise water, snorkeling at Gran Cenote, a full day at Xcaret park, swimming with sea turtles at Akumal, and the shallow family-perfect beach at Isla Mujeres.

Morning
Templo Mayor (Aztec ruins) and the Zocalo, one of the world's largest plazas. Up to the Torre Latinoamericana for a 360-degree view of the city.
Afternoon
Palacio de Bellas Artes (Rivera, Orozco and Siqueiros murals), then a walk through Alameda Central. Lunch at Mercado de la Merced — full meal under M$100/person (~5.70 EUR).
Evening
Tacos al pastor at a Roma neighborhood taqueria. 15-minute Uber ride back from Centro.
Morning
Monte Alban, the ancient Zapotec capital perched on a hilltop. 360-degree views across the valley. 30-minute colectivo ride, allow 2-3 hours on site.
Afternoon
Museo de las Culturas de Oaxaca inside the 16th-century Santo Domingo convent. Then the ethnobotanical garden next door.
Evening
Dinner at Cuish for Oaxacan specialties. Try the mole negro and a mezcal flight (for the parents).
Morning
Tulum ruins at 8 AM before the crowds. A walled Mayan city on a cliff above the Caribbean. Swim on the beach directly below the ruins.
Afternoon
Gran Cenote, 4 km from town. Snorkeling among small fish in a half-open cave. Life jackets available. M$500/person (~29 EUR).
Evening
Barba Negra for contemporary seafood tacos with signature sauces. Kids love the fish tacos here.
Morning
Colectivo to Cancun, then 40-minute ferry to Isla Mujeres (M$300 round trip / ~17 EUR). Rent a golf cart to explore the car-free island.
Afternoon
Playa Norte — shallow, calm water stretching "the length of a football field." The best family beach in Mexico. Snorkeling at Garrafon de Castilla.
Evening
Temple of Ixchel at Punta Sur before the return ferry. Back to Tulum by evening.

Practical tips included

Water safety
Never drink tap water. Only agua purificada. Check that ice is made from purified water. Hotels usually provide a garrafon (filtered water dispenser).
Taxi scams
Never hail a cab on the street. Use Uber or Didi, or ask your hotel to call a taxi de sitio. At Cancun airport, unlicensed "taxis" charge M$1,500+ (85 EUR) for short rides.
Altitude in Mexico City
The capital sits at 2,240 m. Take it easy on day one. Stay hydrated. Possible symptoms: dizziness, fatigue, headaches. They pass within 24 hours.
